So finally we are on our way direction West. Well first of all we leave the Yacht Marina in direction customs in Marmaris.
and head south towards Rhodos. Only few miles we have some nice gentle wind to start with, then quite soon we are happy to have installed the safety lines because we go with the 2nd reef and more than 5 beaufort up wind. As we haven’t sailed since last October we feel that we are a bit out of training, but fortunately we were well prepared.
Like this we soon reached the city harbour Mandraki in Rhodos and were told to fix the boat with the anker and two lines on the back. Interesting that we should not use the mooring line that were there.
While the paper work of checking into Greece was done by the agency we soon were able to take a walk in Rhodos.
and most important finally bought the right beer ;-).
As we wanted to leave the next morning we then also understood why we had to use the anker instead of the mooring lines, the reason was we had to support the local divers who make their living from helping the boats getting their anker freed from the mooring line again. A learning for sure and for 50 EUR not even so expensive, but nasty somehow from the harbor and agency that they also had charged another 20 EUR only for helping us in the harbour, while not passing on the correct information. Well, we feel welcome to Greece and already do miss Turkey and the friendliness of the people there.
After a nice day of sailing we finish the day in the bay of Panormitis on Symi sein, and finally have time for good swim throughout the bay.
Due to the weather forcast telling us about some strong Meltemi winds coming up in the next days,we decide to head on and sail our first night through direction north-west.
So we enjoy the first sundowner with the sun going directly into the sea, how beautiful!
Thanks to AIS and Radar we travel quite safely through the night, and without any clear plan we change over for the watches every couple of hours when one is tired and the other wakes up. Also we learn that the large tankers don’t really care that the sailing vessel should have priority.
After Ormos Kalandhon at Naxos we travel to
Ormos Vathy at Siphnos, then Seriphos Ormos Koutala, then Mericha at Kithnos, every day a bit more North-West, most of the time the wind on the nose, but well, that’s the way it is while sailing…
With every day our confidence in our She San grows and we get more routine and feel comfortable in what we are doing.
